Captivating students online

I would love to hear students say that they are enjoying an online class from the beginning to the end of the semester. What do I need to do to captivate them online?

I have been teaching e-learning classes in Kenya. More than 50 % of the class has been faithfully attending the classes for the last half of the semester. Towards the end, the attendance has slowed down for synchronous interactions but quite fine for asynchronous interactions. what can one do to captivate students online?
